Welcome to the actual "News"

Today we are going to learn what the word "news" means.

It has been muddled to the extent that it actually has become borderline meaningless in our culture. I should back up to say that this blog is being written by an American, who at nearly 40 years of age, has seen changes to what is allowed to be called "news" and it is deeply disturbing.

Back several presidencies, either Reagan or the first Bush changed the law that dealt with what was allowed to be called news.

When I was younger, I remember that whenever the broadcaster stated an opinion, at the bottom of the screen, there was a large, clearly marked label (that stayed up until he was done) that said: commentary. This meant OPINION. Opinion has now taken over news.

News actually should be simple. I will give you an example: Bob Smith, director of so and so inc. was arrested Saturday for securities fraud. He was taken into custody at 10 pm. His arraignment is scheduled for such and such date.

Another: There was a head on collision of a car and a tree on the 101 off ramp. One person was taken to the nearest hospital in stable condition.

What is missing from these? Two things that we have become totally used to in today's media, opinion and button-pushing words. Button-pushers, as I will call them, are words that are meant to "fire-up" the audience or attempt to brainwash the audience to be for or against something.

Fox News is the Gold Standard for doing this. Every single thing they do has an agenda: to make money for the corporate pigs. But, we'll get into that later. If you can stomach it, try to watch them for 5 minutes without losing your lunch. See if even one story is told as "news" or if it is told as "button-pushers."

By definition: one cannot be "Fair and Balanced" if one uses the above 2 techniques. So, Fox News is neither News, nor Fair and balanced.
